Master course on advanced emergency medicine

Emergency medicine defines the knowledge and skills required for prevention, diagnosis and management of acute illness and injury in patients of all ages. It also encompasses the development of pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency medical systems.

The master course is a two - year course offered by Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive care medicine (SSAI). The number of participants will be 20 on each course, with one course every second year. Applicants are specialists in anaesthesiology and members of the SSAI who are working or are planning to work in advanced emergency medicine in the pre-, inter-, and/or in - hospital setting. After fulfilling the course the candidate will be entitled AEMP, Advanced Emergency Medicine Physician. AEMPs should serve as course directors and teachers for other personnel (anaesthesiology trainees, paramedics, ambulance staff).  Research and development as well as quality assurance activities within the domain of emergency medicine have priority.  Further AEMPs should act as consultants on organisation and development of emergency care at the local, regional or national level. Further candidates from this course will be recruited as collaborators in major disasters within or outside Scandinavia.
