BE OUR GUEST!
Dear Colleague:
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am John Hiser, MEd, RRT, FAARC, Chair of the AARC International Committee of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). I would like to take this opportunity to tell you and your colleagues in Norway about the AARC/ARCF International Fellowship Program?
This Fellowship Program brings accomplished respiratory clinicians from around the world to the United States for study and related professional experience. Since 1990, health professionals from over 50 countries have shared experiences, knowledge, and developed lasting friendships through this exceptional program. The program is sponsored by the American Association for Respiratory Care, a 61 year-old medical society, and the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF).
The three-week program takes each participant to medical facilities in two host cities and concludes with attendance and acknowledgement at the AARC’s International Respiratory Congress. This people-to-people approach to international healthcare provides a basis for lasting ties between U.S. respiratory therapists and their professional counterparts in other countries. It strengthens the global exchange of knowledge and experience essential to quality patient health care. As Dr. Vikram Sarbhai, 2003 Fellow from New Delhi, India stated:
“I wish to reiterate my appreciation to the AARC for championing the International Fellowship Program. I am personally convinced that this effort shall some day change the Respiratory Care scenario worldwide … serving a point of nucleus for world vision. It will bring forth more job opportunities and … serve as a huge step forward in the betterment of health sciences in general.”
Fellowships are granted to professional candidates with a commitment to respiratory health care. The goals of the Fellowship program are to:
| • |
Promote the exchange, development, and coordination of the art, science and application of respiratory care. |
| • |
Allow for meaningful interaction and cooperation among multi-national colleagues in an apolitical, humanitarian context. |
| • |
Enhance the awareness and understanding of the profession of respiratory care and its role on the health care team. |
| • |
Provide encouragement and assistance to those countries seeking to establish the profession of respiratory care |
All of the Fellows selected for 2008 will have a chance to meet their counterparts from across the United States (with little expense to themselves), and an opportunity to begin discussions and relationships that continue after their return to their home country.
Please help us make your colleagues in Norway aware of this fellowship. With your help, we can share knowledge about respiratory care and help patients in both our countries. Can you help by posting information about this fellowship program on your website?
Sincerely,
John Hiser
