Focused Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography

During the last years there has been a growing interest for “Point of Care Ultrasound” in critical care medicine. FATE (Focused Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography) is goal-directed echocardiography for cardio-pulmonary optimisation in the ICU and critical care environment. At Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby, Denmark a FATE educational program has been offered all members of the medical staff and the FATE-protocol is now mandatory when admitting acute patients to the ICU.
The essential elements of FATE can be printed on a double-sided laminated card and carried in the pocket. Thousands of FATE cards have recently been distributed worldwide and can be requested free of charge from the website: http://fate-protocol.com/
