Scandinavia in ESICM
Recently we attended the 24th annual congress in intensive care medicine in Berlin (Oct 1-5th 2011). Fourteen percent of the attendants were form the Scandinavian countries. Fifteen, 4.8 % (nine from Sweden, three from Norway, two from Denmark, one from Finland) of the speakers came from Scandinavia. Scandinavian intensive care medicine is competent both in research, education and practical skills, and our tradition should influence Europe. To do so Scandinavian intensive care medicine must be visible during the ESICM congresses.
To progress it is necessary to engage! We therefore encourage all Scandinavian intensive care medicine doctors to engage through the different sections in ESICM. The sections are led by a chairperson and a deputy, elected every third year. The main task of the Sections is to provide the Congress Committee and the Research Committee with the expertise within their field. As ESICM member you have the right to be a voting member in one of the sections.
ESICM has the following sections:
• Acute Kidney Injury
• Acute Respiratory Failure
• Cardiovascular Dynamics
• Ethics
• Health Services Research and Outcomes
• Infection
• Neuro-Intensive Care
• Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition (and Hepatology)
• Perioperative Intensive care
• Systemic Inflammation and Sepsis
• Trauma Emergency Medicine
Engage!
