Scandinavian influence in UEMS

Published by: Administrator

During the Euroanaesthesia congress in Munich this week, Dr. Jannicke Mellin-Olsen from Bærum Hospital, Norway, was elected as President of the Section and Board of Anaesthesiology UEMS (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes / European Union of Medical Specialists).

This is an important position since the UEMS is the only official advisor to the EU system in relevant matters, such as guidelines, education and quality. UEMS also works closely with ESA (European Society of Anaesthesiolgy) in other fields.

Jannicke Mellin-Olsen is a former president of the Norwegian Society and has been a SSAI Board member the last ten years. She is also a member of the WFSA Education Committee, travelling the world to participate in educational programmes, in addition to being active in several boards of the Norwegian Medical Association.

Prof. Seppo Alahuhta from Oulu, Finland, was elected as Vice President. He has served as the president of the Finnish Society of Anaesthesiologists and he has also been a SSAI Board member. He is a member of the educational committee of the SSAI.

Dr. Ellen O'Sullivan, Ireland, was elected as Honorary Secretary and Treasurer.

The term of office is four years.
